Comprehensive Imaging with Safer Doses for Kids

Imaging at Children’s Hospital at Erlanger offers comprehensive services to assist in diagnosing disorders in patients ranging from the smallest premature infants to young adults with pediatric diseases, while delivering the lowest radiation doses in the region. This is important because sensitivity to radiation is highest earlier in life. Our team of fellowship-trained pediatric radiologists have expertise in all body systems, including chest, abdomen, musculoskeletal system, brain, and spine.

EOS Imaging Stands Apart

Better Images with Less Radiation

Our EOS imaging machine captures head-to-toe images of patients in a standing position. This groundbreaking technology produces high quality images using significantly less radiation than a standard x-ray and is primarily used to assess patients with spine, hip, and leg disorders. The lower radiation is particularly important for children with spinal abnormalities, such as scoliosis, who will be monitored throughout their lifetime and require frequent medical imaging. The EOS gives remarkable detail and can produce 3-D images of the spine, enabling physicians to provide a more accurate diagnosis and plan an effective course of treatment.

Common disorders that EOS can be used for include:

  • Gait Abnormalities
  • Kyphosis
  • Leg Length Discrepancies
  • Scoliosis
  • Valgus Deformities

Low-Dose Multi-slice CT, Utilizing ASiR Dose Reduction

Computed Tomography (CT) uses X-ray beams to produce 3D, cross-sectional images of specific areas of the body including the head, abdomen and extremities. Children’s Hospital at Erlanger utilizes adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction (ASiR) as a means to significantly reduce radiation exposure while still capturing high quality images.
